About the negative sides of self hosting

Yesterday, in the evening, in Piedmont where I come from, there were heavy storms with hail and as usual the electricity went out and the ADSL line also had problems.
Consequently my server with the experimental instances Friendica, Mastodon, Lemmy went down and is still down. Until the electricity returns or the telephone operator restores the line, my server remains down with unreachable services. That's the downside of self-hosting.
But it's acceptable. That doesn't bother me that much. If you use the server to mess around on social media, it's fine. If, on the other hand, you entrust e-mail services to the server, then it is better to leave self-hosting alone and rely on a professional provider on a webfarm with guarantees of service continuity.
